Mzimba District Commissioner meets SCTP beneficiaries
In Mzimba South, the District Commissioner and District team have been visiting Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP) beneficiaries to see how they are benefitting from the project.
On 18 May 2022, the District Commissioner visited the home of Mrs Moyo – a widow from Manjawira.
Mzimba district is funded by the European Union. The district started implementing the SCTP in 2014 and made its first transfers delivery in April 2015. Mzimba is a vast district and as such, is operationally divided into two - Mzimba North and Mzimba South - for smooth programme implementation.
Mrs Moyo told the District Commissioner that she has managed to build an iron sheet roofed house with money from the SCTP, pays for secondary school education for her children and has invested in livestock – 5 goats and 8 chickens.
Mzimba contains about 5% of the total SCTP household beneficiaries and currently has over 14,000 households registered within the SCTP. 66% of these households are female headed, like Mrs Moyo.
