Since joining the Social Cash Transfers Programme (SCTP) in 2015, Elizabeth Msadala from Chingole Village in Sub Traditional Authority Kabuthu in Chizumulu Island says her life feels much at ease since she started receiving money.

Msadala said with the money, she is able to support her children’s needs at school among other basic necessities at home.

"I can say that the cash transfer program has changed my life. I was a nobody in the society but now, I am respected in the community. I run small business and with the profits, I have built a house of 34 iron sheets and I am hopeful to complete it before the rains start.

"My future plan, is to buy enough timber and make a boat so that through that I set the base for money to support my children in secondary school. I thank the Government of Malawi for introducing this program," said Msadala.

Chizumulu Island is in the Likoma district of Malawi and is situated next door to Likoma Island. It is reached by boat and does not have a road on the island. Around 4,000 people like on Chizumulu. Likoma district is supported by the German government through KfW.
