Last week, the Honourable Minister of Gender, Community Development & Social Welfare, Dr Patricia Kaliati witnessed the payments of regular Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP) cash transfers and Cyclone Ana response in Nsanje District.
In Nsanje District, 5,676 SCTP households received regular cash transfers and top ups for Cyclone Ana and 2,350 non-SCTP households received transfers for Cyclone Ana response. For the Cyclone Ana response, each household received a total of 54,000 MWK, which was a lumpsum of 3 months of support.
The money was disbursed as a recovery measure for beneficiaries to rebuild their livelihoods after the cyclone disaster earlier this year.
Cyclone Ana response payments were paid in all four Districts that were affected by the disaster – Mwanza, Neno, Nsanje and Chikwawa. In total, 31,646 households received monetary support from the Ministry which comprises of 19,530 SCTP households and 12,116 non-SCTP households.
The Cyclone Ana response was possible thanks to the financial support from our partner the EU, which totalled 1.7 billion MWK.
