Today in Thyolo, the Honourable Minister of Gender, Community Development & Social Welfare, Dr Patricia Kaliati launched the e-payments solution of the Social Cash Transfers Programme (SCTP) with mobile service provider TNM Mpamba.

The launch embraces the Digitalisation Agenda under the Malawi Agenda 2063.

Whilst launched e-payments, Minister Dr Kaliati said “TNM must ensure the network is covering everywhere in Thyolo, even hard to reach places, so no-one is left out of this initiative”.

As soon as the e-payments were launched there was a rush by beneficiaries to the gazebos where TNM agents were waiting, ready to cash out their money.

“The Social Cash Transfer Programme has brought phone acquisition and digital payments to a rural setting. It is really great” said one district official.

Thyolo is a Government of Malawi funded district under the Social Cash Transfers Programme (SCTP).
