Mobile money payments have started to be used in Thyolo district for the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP).

Last week the Ministry were busy testing epayments execution in the Government of Malawi funded Thyolo District as part of the SCTP and this week, mobile money payments have started. Recipients are happy with the service mobile money provides with one saying: “It is great. Immediately I got the message about my cash transfer wallet being credited”.

Payments through mobile money is being supported by the service provider TNM as part of a new generation of epayments. epayment migration is part of the Government and Ministry’s Digitalisation Agenda and epayment strategy from the Malawi2063 paper.

Adding mobile money payments to SCTP builds on the efforts that have been underway with

Irish Aid support in Balaka and Ntcheu. The ministry is excited that transitions to epayments will soon come in the districts supported by World Bank, Irish Aid, KFW and the European Union.

Thank you to our partners UNCIEF, GIZ and NLGFC for technical support on SCTP epayments process in Thyolo.
