TELESA NAKALI ONE OF THE BENEFICIARIES OF SCTP IN THYOLO DISTRICT
Teresa Nakali, 62, is one of the beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer Program (SCTP) commonly known as Mtukula Pakhomo. She has eight children five of whom are still dependent of her.
She has been struggling to feed and send her children to school because she has very small garden that can not sustain her family’s needs. The coming of the program offered relief to her because she is now able to support her children with food and school needs.
“Before the program I had nowhere to go. I had nothing to give my school going children.” Says Teresa Nakali, from Mpiyana Village, in the Area of Traditional Authority Nchiramwera in Thyolo.
Thyolo District has 17000 households benefiting from the program which supports ultra poor and labour constrained households with cash payments.
Nakali receives K10000 a month which she uses to support her children to go to school by buying food and school requirements.
The Government of Malawi provides funding for Mtukula Pakhomo in Thyolo district while the remaining districts are supported by donor partners such as the World Bank, German Government throuhh KFW, European Union and Irish Government while UNICEF and other partners provide technical support to the program.
