SCTP Dowa beneficiary invests in livestock and now has booming business
On 10th May 2022, SCTP district officials in Dowa district met Mr Abraham who spoke to them about how he has been positively impacted by the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP).
Mr Abraham from Chivala cluster is the 60-year-old head of a five-member household benefiting from the SCTP.
He joined the program in the year of 2018 and has been on the programme for nearly 4 years.
Mr Abraham was able to save funds and purchase pigs with his first round of cash transfers. The pigs have since multiplied, which he has managed to turn into a profitable business for himself and his family.
From the sales of the pigs, he has managed to build a brick house with iron sheet roofing, send his children to school for the first time, and increase his soya and maize crop yield, as he can now afford to buy chemical fertilizers.
His vision for the future is to buy a motorbike to ease mobility as he is now growing old.
Dowa is funded by the World Bank, who we thank for their support of the Government’s Social Cash Transfer Programme.
